Meeting UN Sustainability Goals with Climate Technology

By April 29, 2024No Comments

Climate change is a widespread challenge that affects us all, highlighting the need for an urgent, global response. The UN has already laid out its standards for urgent action with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but how exactly can people and businesses reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and improve their resilience?

One of the solutions is through climate technology, such as innovative heat pumps. Dalrada Climate Technology (DCT), a subsidiary of Dalrada Financial Corporation, offers high-quality climate technology products that help commercial businesses and facilities align with the UN’s sustainability goals—particularly goals #7 and #13.

These unique initiatives are focused on opening up global access to clean, affordable energy and taking action against climate change, both of which can be supported by Dalrada’s latest heat pump technology.

Goal #7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Nearly 790 million people still lack access to electricity, and more than 2.6 billion people rely on polluting and unhealthy fuels for cooking.

On top of these truths, the global energy system is still dominated by fossil fuels, which are the main source of greenhouse gas emissions. They also account for about 80% of the total energy supply, and 66% of electrical power. Knowing this, the UN rolled out Goal #7, which aims to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.”

To successfully achieve this goal, the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix while improving current energy efficiency requires major attention. Given time, both actions can ensure universal access to clean and affordable energy services — which is where Dalrada’s climate technology can make a real difference.

Dalrada’s Clean Energy Contributions

Our heat pumps don’t just heat – they also cool commercial buildings, using supercritical R744 carbon dioxide (CO2) as the refrigerant. Heating and cooling is simultaneous, and our units emit little-to-no carbon when in use.

Unlike traditional boilers and chillers, Dalrada’s advanced technology doesn’t burn fossil fuels. Instead, it works by heat transfer, and in turn, can bring up to 75% in energy savings. Most importantly, buildings and businesses can reduce their carbon footprint and dependence on fossil fuels, all while lowering their overall energy consumption and costs.

Goal #13: Urgent Climate Action

Clean energy and climate action go hand-in-hand, since sustainable energy sources are the key to opting out of fossil fuels and kickstarting true decarbonization.

With the increased awareness and worry surrounding the environmental and health impacts of climate change, as well as discussions held at COP28 this past year, the UN created another sustainability goal. Goal #13 encourages people and businesses to “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.”

The goal acknowledges the urgency and severity of the climate crisis and gives a nod to the 2015 Paris Agreement, which aims to limit the global temperature rise to below 2°C when compared to pre-industrial levels.

However, the current level of ambition and action isn’t sufficiently meeting this target, and the world is already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change. Extreme weather events, rising sea levels, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity are a few of the core issues.

In striving to meet goal #13, it’s crucial that people and businesses enhance their levels of awareness and action while implementing specialized, sustainable climate technologies.

Dalrada’s Climate Action Contributions

Dalrada Heat PumpsDalrada’s climate technology enables companies to inch closer to ESG and Net Zero initiatives, and can play a critical role in meeting goal #13.

The DCT One Series heat pump, for example, helps commercial buildings and facilities mitigate greenhouse gas emissions by replacing traditional boilers and chillers. Older, combustible systems oftentimes use fossil fuels or refrigerants that have a high global warming potential, which works against ESG efforts and the 17 UN sustainability goals. Our heat pumps also use far less power than older, obsolete systems, while delivering significant energy savings.

Reaching Sustainability Through Climate Technology

At Dalrada Financial Corporation, we wholeheartedly believe that our heat pumps can be an integral asset in the fight against climate change. By offering energy efficient and environmentally-friendly climate technology, commercial businesses can urgently align with these UN sustainability goals and pave the way for a cleaner, more caring planet.

Armed with our heat pumps, companies can make a positive impact on the planet and its people while reaping significant energy and cost savings. Learn more about Dalrada’s climate technology or contact us today to learn more.
